It was time to go back home

If you have been here for a while then I am sure you know the jist of it. Both my husband & I are from the Northwest Indiana region. We are high school sweethearts who met at the same place our parents did. It’s a pretty cute story. Long story short, my family is now residing in Florida, while Luke’s are still in the homeland. After 5ish years of marriage & our frustration in growing a family grew larger, we prayed for a change. God led us to Florida for one year. Once that year came to a close, it was evident that God was calling us back to the region.

You can read about why we chose to move to Florida and live in an RV here!

We will forever be thankful for the crystal clear answers the Lord granted us in these decisions. That is a story for another day though. One portion of this story, however, involves the old, rickety walls we now get to call home.

Finding our Forever Dream Fixer Upper

Two weeks before d-day or shall I say move in day, an old victorian hit the market. By chance I checked my email & saw this listing pop up. Immediately we reached out to our lender & our realtor to see what options we had. We were able to do a face time showing the next day followed by an offer. After some deliberating, we had a signed contract.

The road to the closing table was long & windy. By no means was this a simple deal. However, God delivered, our realtor was outstanding & the team of lenders we found got the job done. Here we are.

This 1890 victorian has a laundry list of projects, some needed, some by choice. Regardless, we are so thankful that we were able to find a home to hold every item on our dream home list. Not to mention enough space to house all the kiddos possible & for us to offer a safe haven to those who need it. Now we get to take you all on the journey to making this our home.

This Brings us to a Farewell to Our Blue Abode

Although Our Blue Abode will always have my heart, this new house meant a change needed to be in place. Selling the blue house a year or so ago may have prompted a change, but Our Blue Abode became more of a brand than the actual place we called home. Our Blue Abode taught me how to pursue writing, get creative, gain confidence, & be vulnerable. It helped me help people in ways I didn’t even know I could. It gave me a way to use our pain for purpose.

This is my first ever blog post for Our Blue Abode. You can read it here!

So, farewell to the home that did so much more than shelter me. Farewell to the home that taught me everything I know in how to make this dream home of ours have purpose itself. I cannot wait to see where Abigail Sikma goes all thanks to where Our Blue Abode led me.
