Holiday Stovetop Potpourri Neighborhood Gifts

Now that we are living in our (hopeful) forever home, I think it’s about time to make friends with our neighbors. We have always known our neighbors at our other houses, but were never super neighborly. One time we helped a man on crutches shovel his driveway! However, there’s more we could do. We have received cute plates of cookies from the house across the street & are so excited to finally give back! These stovetop potpourri holiday jars were not only relatively inexpensive, they were super easy to make a large batch of. Here’s how we made 12 jars of holiday goodness for our friends & neighbors!

Making Stovetop Potpourri Holiday Jars for Friends & Neighbors

Hosting Friendsgiving this year was a lot of fun. Although the house is no where near done & even ready to host large groups, we did anyways. It was so good to have the company. Luke has been talking about doing something for the neighbors & so I thought we could combine a little DIY for both a hostess gift to our friends & also our neighbors.

We planted Blueberry bushes this past spring in honor of our second baby that we miscarried. You can read that post here. The idea behind these blueberry bushes was to be able to harvest them & pass out to loved ones or to hosts that invite us over. You know, never show up empty handed? Who doesn’t love blueberries either! I am excited for more to harvest for this honoring to take place. In the mean time - however - we need something now. These jars were the perfect, inexpensive way to give back this holiday season.

Below I have instructions & a shopping list for you! I even included a fun tip & a free download for jar labels. I purchased everything needed from Target & our local grocery store & whipped up all TWELVE jars in maybe 10 minutes. These jars are so simple & festive. You just pour the contents into a pot on your stove, add water as needed & simmer on low. Your home will quickly fill with a nice holiday aroma!

Stovetop Potpourri Shopping List & Instructions for Ingredients & Materials.

shopping list

1 package of 12 Pint size Ball Mason Jars

About 3 or 4 large Oranges

Cinnamon Sticks : About 24-36 needed, one large spice container is what I purchased

Cloves : I purchased 3 small spice containers because it was cheaper, 1 large would suffice as well

Rosemary : 2 refrigerated packages were more than enough for me OR real Christmas Tree little branches

1 bag of Cranberries

Water

Notes - I do not do recipes, this is a “wing it” type of activity. I basically just bought the materials above & was able to even disperse ALL of the materials between the 12 jars. Whatever fit, fit!

Cloth, old scarf, fabric for lid - I purchased a $5 scarf from target dollar section

String, Cardstock, hole puncher, faux greenery for decoration

instructions

Slice oranges into thin slices & cut the Rosemary into small enough “branches” to fit into the jar.

Open all 12 jars & evenly disperse each item. I did the orange slices first & set them up against the wall of the jars, keeping them from stacking on top of each other.

Once all ingredients are in the jar, fill the rest up with water.

Cut your fabric into smaller squares for each jar. Put the fabric in the lid & screw onto your jars.

Print off your labels, whole punch & use them with faux greenery to tie around your jar lids!

My Number One Tip to Give any Gift an Added Touch.

Something that I pride myself on is that added touch when it comes to gifts. I keep this antique looking string dispenser & a glass jar filled with faux greenery that I can pick off stems. Together, these two add so much to any gift, card, honestly anything. They are decoration in my home & a quick grab when putting together something for someone else. A little bit goes a long ways! It isn’t a genius tip or a huge secret, but I will say I get many compliments on something that is so simple to do. If it makes someone feel more special & like more thought was put into a gift, then I am happy! When not being used for gifts, they are just decoration! My way of being intentional & purposeful in my home & my giving.

These jars are so simple to make for any holiday or gift for larger groups. Have them made & prepared so when a thoughtful gift is needed, you are ready. Holiday Stovetop Potpourri jars are becoming wildly popular & for a good reason. I hope this blog post gives you all the information needed & kept simple enough to encourage you to do this act of service for your neighbors. We did this gift for Thanksgiving, but it applies to Christmas as well. The festive scent is good for all of winter to warm your home! I am sure there are good Spring & Summer jar scents out there we might have to try later this next year. To complete your “toolbox” below you will find a download for jar labels! I did one for Christmas & for Thanksgiving. Just sign your name, punch a hole & your done! I rounded the corners with a puncher but leaving them square would be cute too!
