Hot Chocolate Ornament for Neighbors

Another neighborly gift in the books! I am being really challenged since moving here. We have the sweetest baker of a neighbor & I just cannot keep up with how giving she is. We had so much fun bringing them our Stovetop Holiday Potpourri, but she has upped the game with a box of homemade Christmas cookies. Time for a little Christmas gift drop off! With a little idea guidance from my sister in law, the gift of hot chocolate it is! I needed some help coming up with some non-oven related gifts to give. Her idea of a hot chocolate kit & the left over clear ornaments I had at home made the perfect answer to this gift.

Gifts for your loved ones all in a clear ornament.

I have a few other blog posts on simple gift ideas you can use to pass along to your neighbors. Holiday Stovetop Potpourri & also this blog post with a list of different & simple gifts for all your neighborly people : Five Simple Gifts to Give. These hot chocolate ornaments are for sure going on the yearly giving list. I have a few other ideas for gifts that can be given all with just these kinds of Christmas Tree fillers! Just grab some clear ornaments — pay attention to size depending on what you want to fill it with & then pick out which ideas you love…

+ Hot chocolate or any powdered coffee drink with toppings, like this blog post!

+ Measure your little ones with different ribbons, label them according to each kid & store them in an ornament. Label the year & give it to the grandparents. This can start a collection of ribbons for each year that tell how much each child has grown.

+ Roll up a polaroid & slip it in the ornament. Use tweezers to get the ornament to shape correctly (might need a large ornament) & add some fake snow or battery twinkle lights. You have yourself a photo memory snow globe!

+ If you collect anything throughout the year that will fit in an ornament, that is a great way to keepsake those memories. I did this for my husband while we were dating. Balloons, movie tickets, ribbon from gifts, anything I kept I stored in this ornament that we get to look at each year & show our future kiddos.

Make your own Ornament Hot Chocolate Gifts

Here is everything you need to make these sweet gifts yourself!

shopping list

Clear Ornaments — I prefer plastic to be safe especially for traveling. I got mine from Joanns but so many stores have them available.

Decorative touches — anything you need to spruce up these ornaments. Ribbon, greenery, candy canes, tags. Anything to add some spunk. I also wanted to get something to store them into to drop them off like a cookie bin or box or stocking. Some filler for this would be good too like shredded paper.

Hot chocolate mix — whether a container or separate packets, you just need some “just add water” hot chocolate mix to pour into the ornament.

Toppings — mini marshmallows, peppermint, sprinkles, whatever your favorite hot chocolate toppings are that will fit into the top of these ornaments. That is your only limitation!

instructions

  1. I am not sure this requires an instruction guide, but I will do my best. Gather your items & clean out your ornaments.

  2. First pour your mix. You may want a funnel of some sort to get the powder in your ornament.

  3. Layer your toppings however you would like it to look in the ornament!

  4. Add your topper & any decorations to the top of your ornament & there you go! All done!

With all different toppings, I have found that this is such a fun & easy way to give a simple gift. My theme this year really seems to be how to make things simple & special to spread around your loved ones. I would rather serve them by giving to more people, then to worry about giving the most expensive material items. It is more about the thought behind it & letting someone know you thought of them. At least in my opinion. I think next year I will make more of these for different events. A hostess gift, delivery driver “thank you” or a random neighbor drop off, these ornaments make the perfect reminder you are thinking of them this holiday season.
