Mason Jar Snow Globes

A fun summer activity my in law family started doing is making zucchini relish & salsa with everyones garden — one that we have yet to contribute to but that is okay because we have plenty of farm stands around us. Canning for the coming months means lots of empty jars, jars that take up space in the cub bard. I like to sprinkle in some Christmas in each room, doesn’t have to be anything too crazy. These now empty jars are the perfect thing to fill to reach this cheerful decor. Whether you have your own collection of empty mason jars searching for a purpose, or need to make a thrift store run for some in expensive glass, these snow globes are just the trick to fill that holiday activity time.

+ shopping list & materials need with links to order if needed

+ instructions to make your own mason jar snow globes

+ ideas to spruce up your shelves & counters for the Christmas season

Here is a list of materials you will need for this project.

+ Mason jars, I prefer ones all different sizes & heights. Anything glass with a flat bottom would work.

+ Bottle brush trees. I bought these sets from Hobby Lobby, but you can find them many places. These jars can be filled with anything that stands, so if you find other items like little people or animals or buildings, that would be so cute, too!

+ Some sort of filler. You can do moss, fake snow, flush, you name it! I chose these large snow balls from Hobby Lobby. Also consider getting batter powered twinkle lights. Filling the space with these lights add such a special glow.

+ Ribbon, twine or fabric to tie around the tops of the jars. This adds texture & warmth. Consider old sweaters you can cut, just some twin you have lying around or better yet, both!

Here is your Amazon shopping list for this project

Here is how to make your own mason jar snow globes.

  1. Gather your supplies & materials. Lay out your jars & trees (or other collected items) & plan out what will go where.

  2. Place your trees inside your jars. Add a few smaller trees to a few jars to mix up your pattern. Pour your snow around the base however thick or thin you desire. I just used what I had so some jars had more than others. Place a few “snowflakes” into your trees for added charm.

  3. Twist your lids if you plan & tie your ribbons!

  4. It is as easy as that. Place your jars in all different orders & heights through out your home.

Such an inexpensive & creative way to decorate your shelves this Christmas! Place these jars on your mantle, desk, counters & more. When you visit the thrift store, look for really anything that is glass to fill with simple holiday cheer. The options are endless when you visit your local Hobby Lobby & see all the different trees & objects to make your own winter terrarium. Best part is that none of it has to be glued down! After the season, just pour your contents into a bag or some sort of storage container ready to use for next year!
